The Ministry Certificate Program is a major component of the Ministry Formation Program for the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. It emphasizes the intellectual formation of lay ecclesial ministers and includes elements of human, spiritual, and pastoral formation. Through courses of education, the Ministry Certificate Program (MCP) enables lay ecclesial minsters to more effectively carry out the evangelizing mission of the Church.
The standards of this program follow the recommendations by the USCCB for lay ecclesial ministers. Participants in the program develop a deeper understanding of their faith and are thus able to articulate it more persuasively to those to whom they minister. Upon completion of the Ministry Certificate Program, lay ministers receive a credential in the form of a certificate from the Archdiocese of Portland.
